We at I Survive Cancer think that overcoming cancer is only the start of a new chapter, one that merits healing, hope, and a solid support network. Our goal is to empower people who have faced similar challenges. We were founded by Sheryann Buchanan, a cancer survivor who overcame the odds.
We offer the support, tools, and network you need to move forward with strength, regardless matter whether you are currently undergoing treatment, have just started living after cancer, or have been a cancer survivor for years.
Your time, energy, and patience are worth it. Being a caregiver for someone going through treatment can sometimes be stressful, and time-consuming. You may ask yourself, am I neglecting myself? Learn coping strategies to maintain a happy mood while providing care for someone you love going through treatment.
I know treatment can be time-consuming, taking a toll on your body, quitting your job, loss of relationships, and financial burdens, and sometimes may lead to other diagnoses but we are here, we survived it. What do you need to move forward with a happier life? Allow this Therapist to help you!
But my story became even more extraordinary when I discovered I was pregnant during this challenging time.
For months, I experienced symptoms that initially seemed unrelated:
Severe, unbearable headaches
Frequent dizziness and lightheadedness
Double vision
Unexplained nosebleeds
Persistent fatigue
Difficulty concentrating at work
My journey through the healthcare system was frustrating. Initially diagnosed with hypertension, I was prescribed blood pressure medication, but my symptoms persisted. Despite multiple emergency room visits, the underlying cause remained undetected. It wasn’t until I visited an out-of-network emergency room that a CT scan finally revealed the tumor in my brain.
Sheryann Buchanan’s journey is one of extraordinary courage. In January 2021, she was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer. At the same time, she discovered she was three weeks pregnant.
What followed was a battle against all odds—a fight to not only survive cancer but to do so while bringing new life into the world.
With unshakable determination, Sheryann endured the challenges of treatment while embracing the strength that would ultimately define her survival. Now, she is dedicated to helping others navigate their own battles through cancer survivor coaching and support.
